For a look at a previous year's signup e-mail details, see: please have a look at this.

FYI: This year's rules may be modified to take in suggestions from last year's participants.

Only rule 1, 2, 6, 7, 10, and 12 are set in stone, consider everything else as a guideline.

  1. The 24 hours run continuously, you must stop 24 hours after starting.
  2. Preparation can include the organising of resources, tools, food, music, etc but can not include designs, sketches, story notes or plots.
  3. 24 page long entries are prefereable, in the spirit of the challenge/ Consider joining forces with a friend or someone from Pulp Faction if you're unsure of being able to produce 24 pages. That said, there are also judging categories for 8+ page entries and 16+ page entries.
  4. There are no restrictions to format or materials used or how the final comic is presented, except that it must be represented somehow in the forums so as to show start-to-finish progress.
  5. Artistic ability is not a necessity; previous entries have used photos, images captured from computer games, stick figures and postcards.
  6. There will be a three random items/words which will need to be included, these will be posted on the Pulp Faction forum starting the morning of the Challenge and will update periodically.
  7. You should use the current random words/items (as of your start time) in your story (in text or visually).
  8. If you wish to be judged in the Manga category, please add the 'manga' somewhere in the title so that the judges will see it.
  9. Entries are to be uploaded or linked to Pulp Faction forum thread, but other alternatives can be arranged by contacting an organiser prior to the challenge's commencement.
  10. In terms of content, there is a General audience and Adult Audience section. The organisers of the challenge reserve the right to reject any entry which in their opinion may: a) bring the nature of the contest into question; b) be potentially libelious, inciteful, or illegal under Australian law; or c) overly explicit or distasteful. Please remember this is about having fun, and not ticking off our sponsors. (Maggie, Ive or Troy have final word on any questionable content.)
  11. If you start your entry and then decide it should be moved from General to Mature/Adult, please let an organiser know and add "ADULT" to the title in the interim.
  12. Only Australian Residents are eligible for prizes but International particpants are welcome to join in. We've had participants from all over the world.
  13. Only Pulp Faction members who register before the challenge ends and voting begins are eligible to vote in any 'peoples' choice' polls, so register.
  14. Participants must have fun and create. :)

Tips

  • Have a good sleep before the event and eat a good hearty meal.
  • For the sake of others shower beforehand.
  • Have a really good selection of music to keep you going.
  • Eat regularly to keep your energy up.
  • Keep your pages small, try A4.
  • Keep your scans small, too. A4 scans saved as JPGs 600 x 849 pixels work really well.
  • Do a layout first of all the pages, then go through and add detail.
